Girl Bossin’
A topic that is really resonating with me at the moment; trying to be a girl boss who’s working her hardest and burning the candle at both ends. Work hard, play hard is a motto I certainly live by, but it can also lead to some unhealthy habits.
I say this as I am currently sat here after leaving the office at nearly 7pm, already having written and edited another blog post and images, filling out mortgage documents and now back to working on the blog with the odd check for wedding venues. Not to mention trying to squeeze in going to the gym, cooking meals for the week, a couple of nights out and planning a big weekend in London for a wedding!
Girl Boss Habits to Kick
Even though I might be feeling super productive, it can be easy to slip into habits that cause me to end up not feeling my best. Here are my top 4 unhealthy habits that it’s time to kick to maximise your inner girl boss.
Not Getting Enough Sleep
We get it, as a girl boss there are never enough hours in the day, but eating into your vital sleep schedule isn’t where you should be making the time up. Sleep is essential for maintaining both good physical and mental health and by repeatedly depriving yourself of sleep you put yourself at risk of lowering your immune system and letting stress and anxiety creep in. If you’re continually finding yourself working late into the night and falling asleep at your laptop (definitely me) then it’s time to re-evaluate your working day to see how you can make some improvements. After all, a good nights sleep will help you to be more productive and produce better quality work. Some people really benefit from CBD to help with sleeping. One of my favourites is Royal CBD.
Using alcohol to relax
Did you know that the recommended maximum weekly intake of alcohol is just 14 units per week? To put that into perspective that’s just 1.5 bottles of 12% wine or the equivalent of 4.5 large glasses. If you’re finding yourself drinking a nice large glass of wine a night to help you relax after a stressful day then you will most likely be exceeding this limit. Regular consumption of alcohol above the 14 unit weekly limit can lead to a lot of long term health problems. If you want to relax you could swap this out for a healthier solution such as an evening meditation or half an hour with a relaxing book. It can be a taboo subject but if you feel you are becoming quite reliant on alcohol to relax then you might want to speak to your doctor who can direct you to a number of services including counselling and alcohol rehab centres.
Eating convenience food
You wake up and need to be out of the house by 8? Grab a croissant from Starbucks on your way into work. (or run off coffee for the morning if you’re like me.) Then you don’t take a lunch break so skip it or grab a packet of crisps from the vending machine. You get home late after a networking event and can’t be bothered to cook. It’s easier to grab a ready meal out of the fridge and pop it in the microwave or order takeout. Convenience food can be a lifesaver at times; but if you’re relying on then you won’t be giving your body the nutrients it needs. The main selling point of convenience foods is that they save you time, so you need to find another time-saving alternative. Try to meal prep breakfasts that you can grab straight from the fridge, pack lunch the night before and consider trying meal subscription boxes that make it easy to whip up a nutritious home-cooked meal in less than 15 minutes.
Saying yes to everything
Being a girl boss can mean making the most of every single opportunity. However sometimes you need to learn when to say no. Saying no means taking back control of your time and your life. Don’t just say yes because you feel you have to; weigh up what you are giving in order to attend that event or meet that person after work and decide if it is worth what you need to give in return.

Great tips! I find it really hard to relax in the evenings; once I’ve made dinner, done washing or any house work and any extra things like blogging it leaves me with little time to actually relax…I need to look into meal subscription boxes to save the time it takes me to make dinner! Becca x
