Styling Jackets for Spring with Very
Spring is upon us, and dare I say, it looks like we’re in for a great summer (touch wood)! Now, one of the things that can be most challenging in the UK, is dressing for the several seasons we seem to get in one day. Whether it’s summer and you still need to carry a brolly and big coat, or it’s still winter but we get a couple of scorcher days, the weather here can be unpredictable to say the least. This is totally why I now have such a big range of jackets. Before building out my jacket collection, I often felt like a generic jacket ruined my outfit choice, and often did absolutely not go with the style or vibe I had chosen with my base layers. Then I decided that since its actually quite rare that we get the opportunity to leave the house with no jacket, that it was worth investing in some cute and versatile pieces to level up my wardrobe.
I recently picked out a few staple pieces from Very. For me, Very is one of my favourite destinations to browse and shop. They have such a great range of literally any style you could think of. to suit a range of budgets and occasions. I picked out a few new transitional coats and jackets that I know I will be wearing throughout the year. So I wanted to share these and show you guys how I’d style each one.

Levi’s Denim
So first up we have your classic Levi’s denim. And it’s a classic for a reason. Honestly for me, denim jackets are probably my most worn type of coat. And if you don’t own one then I would definitely recommend having at least one in your wardrobe! Denim goes with any colour IMO, and can definitely be styled up or down, making it the perfect transitional piece. Since I already have a couple of basic denim jackets, I opted for this Levis Shrunken 90s Trucker Jacket. It has a really cool boxy shape, and a fun double denim design across the top and back. Very do also have some options to suit a lower budget, but for denim I always think it is worth the investment for good quality and something you will wear over and over.
I also LOVE a double denim outfit moment, and these Levi’s ribcage are my absolute fave style. They have been a staple fit in the Levi’s range for years, and they are so flattering. They are perfectly in-between skinny and baggy, and straight legged. I think this fit is so great to style with heels or with trainers, and goes so well with the jacket too. Again, they are an investment piece, but they are jeans you will keep in your wardrobe and wear over and over.

Mango Leopard Reversible Jacket
This coat is the definition of versatile. It’s also the definition of me in a jacket. A faux fur leopard (which, by the way, is the softest faux fur I’ve ever felt) on one side, and chic black leather on the other. Have you ever seen anything more perfect?! I thought I’d love the leopard on the outside more, but I actually love the little peeks of the print you get when wearing it leather-side-out. The hood is such a great addition too. Sometimes hoods can make or break a jacket, but this one makes it even cooler somehow.
Since we are going into spring, I styled this with some leopard shorts and white vest, with chunky boots. These little shorts have made a comeback again this summer, so will be a staple for me again this year – I wore them to death last year! But since I’m used to many a rainy day here in Manchester, even in summer, adding this coat gives me that extra layer to protect against the weather, whilst adding to the outfit rather than taking away.
Oversized Leather
Last but by no means least, we have the oversized leather. I’m a sucker for anything oversized to be honest. But with leather jackets I just much prefer this to a more fitted style, and always have. A leather jacket is similar to denim for me. They just go with every colour, outfit or occasion. I really like the bomber jacket shape of this one, which I think for me lends itself a little better to a more casual look. However I’d definitely wear this over a mini dress or with a maxi skirt and tee too. The large collar detail and slouchy style looks really effortlessly cool, and here I’ve styled it with jeans, trainers and a bandeau top. Perfect for adding a layer on those cooler days or evenings out, but without drowning the outfit in a jacket that ruins the vibe.
Staple Transitional Jackets
All three of these jackets have become staples for me in my wardrobe. They are all super versatile between the months changing as well as outfits. They would also be great options to take outfits from day to night. The reversible one is probably my fave. It’s just really unusual and I’ve had a tonne of compliments on it too. Although denim and leather are both just top tier choices for me too, that I’d always recommend investing in as part of a capsule wardrobe or just generally.
Let me know which one was your fave or if you have other great transitional jackets for spring that you always reach for!
