Where to Visit on a Luxury Trip to India

August 26, 2024

Have you ever considered India as your next travel destination? This country has an abundance of natural beauty, incredible architecture, and rich culture. Sometimes I get overwhelmed with trips to destinations that are so big and there so much to do! If you’re unsure how to craft the perfect itinerary, consider booking a luxury vacation to India with specialists who can create a customised trip just for you. This makes it super easy and ensures you make the most of your adventure.

I’ve rounded up some of the best destinations across India that are definite ‘must sees’ during your travels. If you are planning the trip yourself, you can use these as a guide, or you can mention them to your planner who will include your favourite spots in their plan!

Udaipur: the city of lakes

Nestled in the heart of Rajasthan, Udaipur is often hailed as one of the most romantic cities in India. It’s known as the “city of lakes” and boasts shimmering waters, majestic palaces, and beautiful, lush gardens. If you’d like to live like royalty during your trip, head to The Lake Palace, which sits in the middle of Lake Pichola. It was once used as a summer house by the Mewar Royal Family! Today it offers 65 rooms and 18 suites. They are decorated with silk, velvet, and decorative pieces of art, making this an incredibly luxurious place to stay.

Kerala: God’s own country

Kerala is located in southern India and is renowned for its tranquil backwaters, lush greenery, and expansive paddy fields. A luxury trip here typically includes a stay on a private houseboat that cruises through the backwaters of Alleppey or Kumarakom. It’s worth booking houseboats equipped with modern amenities and personal chefs. This way you can sit back, relax, and enjoy your surroundings.

If a houseboat isn’t for you, you could stay in luxury boutique hotels like the Coconut Lagoon. Here, you can take advantage of traditional Ayurvedic treatments, heritage-style accommodation and an excellent location on the banks of Lake Vembenad.

Jaipur: The Pink City

Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan and is famous for its rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant culture. It’s known as the “pink city” due to its pink-colored buildings and is home to opulent palaces and forts such as the Amber Fort and City Palace.

Jaipur offers many unique experiences, like elephant rides to the Amber Fort, hot air balloon rides over the city, and exclusive shopping tours for traditional crafts and jewellery. For a royal experience, stay at the Rambagh Palace or the Raj Palace. Here you can enjoy grand suites, impressive dining, and traditional Rajasthani hospitality.

Agra: home of the Taj Mahal

The iconic Taj Mahal in Agra is a must-see during your trip to India. This UNESCO World Heritage site is “distinguished as the finest example of Mughal architecture, a blend of Indian, Persian, and Islamic styles,” says Britannica. It’s a real sight to behold, made of white marble that “reflects hues according to the intensity of the sunlight or moonlight.”

To make the most of your visit, I’d recommend a stay at the Oberoi Amarvilas. It provides unparalleled views of the Taj Mahal from the comfort of your room. This 5-star hotel offers personalised services, fine dining, and spa treatments. It also has beautiful terraced lawns and fountains perfect for relaxation. While in Agra, you could also explore the historic Agra Fort crafted from red sandstone.

With its rich cultural heritage and diverse landscapes, India is the perfect place for your next adventure. Whether you want to explore the vibrant city of Jaipur, sink your toes in the sands of Goa, or set sail on the lakes of Udaipur; India has something to offer for everyone.
