Birria Brothers Tacos
If you don’t already know about Birria Brothers in Manchester’s NQ, then get to know. ESPECIALLY if you like tacos. Located within Koffee Pot from 4-11pm Monday to Saturday, these guys serve up some of the best food in the city.
Birria Brothers started as a pop up, but due to very much deserved high demand, they now have a permanent residency and their own very cool signage outside the Koffee Pot site. If you’ve read my other posts, you’ll know I’m already a HUGE fan of Manchester institution – Koffee Pot. You can have a read and nosey at some pics here if not. They serve some of the best breakfast and brunches in town, and its literally my favourite place for a hangover recovery. So its obvious that Birria Brothers would follow suit in sheer greatness.
They are Manchester’s first birria taco bar. Something I’d never had before going here and 100% worth the trip just for this if you haven’t had birria. However, they have a full menu of tacos and some incredible starters, sides and margs to wash everything down.
The New Menu
When I visited Koffee Pot last, I was chatting to the staff and they mentioned there was going to a new Birria Bros menu, so of course we’d immediately decided we needed to return to try that asap. And I’ve since been back.. twice.
Honestly I could rave about this place all day. The food is 10/10 always, and then the addition of the atmosphere, cool restaurant vibes and all of the staff being the friendliest, just makes every visit so great. And the margs, obvs.
So their new menu includes some super unique items. there’s Crispy pigs ears (with burnt lime seasoning and jalapeño mayo), Drowned Empañadas (black bean & foir di latte empañadas, drowned in red and green salas served with garlic crema & iceberg lettuce), Lengua En Escabeche (ox tongue fritters, pickled veg, bone barrow salsa), Stockport Fungi Quesadillas (Adobo roasted mushrooms, cheese, onion, coriander, green jalapeño mayo) and Bone Marrow Salsa. Plus they have a couple of regular specials on certain days, so on Monday you can order Birria Ramen and Fridays there are Fish Tacos. We went on a Friday but I will definitely be going back on a Monday asap for the Birria Ramen. What a dream combo?!
And finally, there are also some new frozen margs, so we have a Vimto Frozen Marg and a Pina Colada Frozen Marg.
Review
If you’ve got to this point I’m pretty sure you’ll know what my review is gonna be even before I’ve even written the review part of the post. Feel free to sign off now as long as you make sure to visit Birria Bros asap.
No but seriously, my review is honestly 10/10, full marks as usual. The food here is just such a great combo of comfort food with great ingredients and just good things done really well. Nothing fancy, just really, really good. There are a few controversial items on the menu, or things that I imagine people might be too nervous to order (if you’re a picky eater!) However I love trying anything and everything so we were totally open to all of the menu. I honestly adored the drowned empanadas. They were one of my faves and I’d definitely recommend ordering those. The crispy pigs ears were maybe not something I’d order again. I enjoyed the flavour, but I think I just preferred everything else more. Not to say they were bad at all, just not my top priority next time. There’s too much other stuff I always want! And then just all of the tacos are 10/10. Definitely try the specials if you can, but we’ve pretty much had all of the tacos on the menu now and they are all great. I don’t know if I could pick a fave.
Drinks-wise you literally can’t go wrong. Margs are my favourite cocktail so this is just my ideal menu, but all of the flavours are great. The frozen ones are delicious too, and they are all margarita-strength, aka not watered down syrupy margaritas. Just good cocktails that are boozy but super flavourful.
You can visit the site here for full menus and more info. It’s a walk up situation only – no bookings. Get there early or you might have to queue for a little bit, but its totally worth it.
