Looking to revamp your personal style or add new life to your existing wardrobe? This can sometimes be difficult, especially if you are not feeling great about yourself. Style is definitely not just about how you appear but also how you feel. This post is sharing 12 styling tips that will hopefully help you create an effortless aesthetic, that will really turn heads wherever you go.
Hopefully these tips will help you to elevate your personal style and leave you feeling confident, comfortable and fabulous!
Here’s my most recent reel trying out some of the new styles on ASOS. I love shopping here as you can get free delivery and returns, meaning you can try out some new styles and find what works for you, without making any commitment.
Understand your Body Shape
When it comes to styling, understanding your body shape is critical. A good starting point is to work out if you have an apple, pear, hourglass or rectangle body type. It won’t mean that your fashion choices will be limited, but it will help to gain a better appreciation of your body. It also helps you find what clothing will fit better and therefore flatter you the most.
Try to experiment with a range of silhouettes and styles to find what you most enjoy wearing. Don’t be afraid to try different styles to find out what works for you best. Its important to understand that what looks incredible on one body type may not necessarily look good on others – and that’s perfectly fine! Shop somewhere that offers a wide range of styles, brands and fits, so you aren’t left feeling disappointed and un-motivated, and you can try a few options in your order! One of my favourites for this is House of Fraser, who also currently have 20% off everything with code FF20!
While fashion is a subjective matter, some outfits are designed to fit and flatter specific body types, so it’s important to try things on and see what works for you and not get too downhearted when something doesn’t.
Buy Well-Fitting underwear!
Investing in high-quality underwear can have a significant impact on how well your clothes fit you and look on your body. Underwear can help with confidence and if it fits well and flatters your body shape you will feel way more comfortable.
A properly fitting bra can improve your posture and provide the support you need to feel confident and amazing in your clothing. Spanx or maybe seamless underwear can also help with confidence and how your outfit sits on your body.
Flaunt what you Love
When it comes to choosing what to wear, you’ll always feel more confident if you feel great! Determine what you like the most about your body and construct an outfit around it. If you like your shapely thighs, you might pick a pencil skirt that accentuates your silhouette. Alternatively, if you feel like your arms or décolletage are your fave feature, choose to wear styles that are sleeveless or a flattering neck-shape. Choose brands that you know and love, and you know you feel confident wearing their pieces. A great option to consider is LK Bennett. If you aren’t sure where to start, they have a range of high quality pieces, and currently have 25% off dresses and shoes! Perfect to try for summer.
Bright-coloured accessories or lipstick
Black and neutral colours are versatile so can be incorporated in endless combinations. If you want to experiment with bright hues or bold patterns, but are new to brights, you might want to start with accessories or makeup before investing in clothing.
Instead of going straight in with that lime green blouse, try a belt, bracelet or even a vivid shade of lipstick to see how the colour looks on you and how you feel wearing something brighter.
Grab the Sunglasses
If you aren’t into too many accessories or complicated trends, and just want something simple to up your fashion game, your new go-to is sunglasses. A cool pair of timeless Prada sunglasses, or something from any classic collection not only flatters your face and instantly lifts your look and overall style, but it also offers 100% UV protection whenever you are out and about. Sunnies definitely add a bit of sophistication to a look and are an easy accessory to style all year round.
Go monochrome
If in doubt, dressing in one colour from head to toe can help eliminate the problem of trying to find matching hues. This trend is perfect for spring and may even encourage you to wear some of your favourite pieces in a new way.
It’s a great way to try something new with colour too. It also makes it easier to put a look together if you only go for items of one colour but in different shades. Denim is also one of my favourite ways to style a monochrome outfit.
Slip on a Blazer
Another effortless way to elevate your look is to slip on a blazer. It’s an easy way to take you from casual to chic in a matter of seconds.
Blazers also allow you to express your personality through the style you choose. There are so many shapes and fabrics that you can really express your style with the additional layer. Whether you opt for leather, crushed velvet, oversized or a tailored traditional version, they enable you to make a personal statement that will draw out the compliments. One of my favourite stores for cool tailoring and accessories is END. They specialise in more streetwear kinda vibes so their blazers are really cool and a bit more stylish than most IMO! You can sign up for early access to sales and new arrivals too.
Don’t just save sneakers for the gym
Who says you should only wear sneakers in the gym? Cool trainers are totally in right now. Just look at some of the recent fashion week style. A good pair of stylish kicks can be paired with a skirt, jeans or a dress to take you from brunch with the girls to a jaunt around the shops or dinner and drinks.
I think they also look kind of cool when matched with a power suit or more formal outfit.
Final Thought
At the end of the day, fashion is a personal choice. It’s important for you to dress for yourself and not for the approval of other people. You should always be happy, comfortable and confident in what you choose to wear.
