4 Tips for Embarking on Your Own Blogging Journey

November 1, 2022

Blogging

Blogging is one of the best ways to share your passion with the world. Whether you want to talk about the crafts you create, your love for style, or the children you cherish; your blog is a little window into your life that can also provide others with the help, advice or inspiration they might be looking for.

The internet is such a big place, and with such a large potential audience to mine, a little dedication can potentially give you a huge, loyal following.

For many of us, blogging begins as a hobby, but a dash of determination can turn it into a side hustle to help you stretch those pennies. So, if you’re looking to start a blogging journey of your very own, here are some quick and easy tips to set you on the right path!

Decide on your Platform

The perfect platform for your blog will depend on what you’re looking for long term. This can be a decision that some people rush, however, changing platforms isn’t always the easiest thing to do, so make sure you really explore the best options so you get it right first time!

One of the most popular choices for a lot of bloggers, including myself, is WordPress. This service gives users complete creative control over their site, letting it really feel like their little corner of the internet waiting to be curated.

Domain Name

In addition to choosing the right platform, selecting a suitable domain name is just as important. A domain name acts as your blog’s identity, so it should be memorable and relevant to your content. Ideally, it should reflect your blog’s theme, niche, or even your personality. Along with the name itself, choosing the right domain extension is crucial. If you’re targeting a broader, global audience, extensions like .com or .org are widely recognized and trusted. However, if your blog is intended for a specific geographic audience, opting for a location-based extension can be more effective. For instance, the .me domain is ideal for sites related to Montenegro, while .in suits content aimed at an Indian audience.

Master the Art of Writing

Writing is one of the most important skills for any blogger, as readers won’t tend to have the patience to sift through poor spelling and grammar.

Writing is a skill that needs to be regularly practised – think of it as sharpening your tools. However, if this isn’t your forte, there’s no need to struggle alone. If spelling and grammar aren’t your strong suit, you can use a service such as Grammarly to ensure that everything you put out to your audience is perfect.

Be SEO Savvy

As a blogger, you might not have given SEO much thought, however, it’s never too early to think about search engine optimisation. If keywords and featured snippets leave you feeling a little overwhelmed, then consider using some expert assistance to help with this. Digital marketing agencies such as Maratopia Digital Marketing can teach you to target for the keywords that will send readers flocking to your posts and hitting that subscribe button.

There’s no shame in asking for help when you need it, and SEO assistance will let you get back to the fun part of blogging, writing posts that your followers will love!

Don’t Shy Away from Socials

Social media is one of the most valuable tools that bloggers have for developing a deeper connection with their audience. Plus, it’s a great way to draw in potential new followers who will love your content.

You can use these platforms to share your latest posts, offer smaller updates on your life, as well as building a sense of community with your readers. Always remember to try and post consistently to keep engagement growing and people engaged with your content. Aside from that, there are a few things to consider if you want to monetize your blogging. It would help if you focus on creating high-quality, niche-specific content that resonates with your target audience. Also, build a loyal readership through comments, social media, and newsletters. Diversify your income streams by incorporating affiliate marketing, sponsored content, and display advertising. For the latter, you may find the right integrations, including Google CMP, to maximize your ads and revenue.
