5 reasons to buy your new home in Manchester

March 25, 2025

Manchester is at the epicentre of a northern resurgence. While its boom began during the industrial revolution, the dynamic city has quickly developed into a hub of modern economic growth. Media, education, and business opportunities run rampant throughout its cool Northern Quarter and glitzy Spinningfields areas (to name a couple!)

Whether you’re seeking new build homes or preloved properties, the city has a diverse portfolio of potential residences. Set them aside for a second, though: here are the most compelling reasons to buy your new home in Manchester.

Booming economy and career prospects

With the steady stream of professionals seeking career prospects, new homes in Manchester are in hot demand. 2023 saw record highs of new start-ups opening in Manchester, and the finance, media, creative, and fashion industries are particularly thriving. If career progression is a priority, Manchester is an opportunity-rich area to purchase a new home. It might be time to join the crowds.

A thriving cultural scene

The best places to live are areas that both inspire and intellectually stimulate. Manchester’s exciting cultural scene provides a constant rotation of events, traditions, and community-based opportunities. Let your hair down, or challenge yourself by learning new things. Pass the Manchester Cathedral on walks to work, visit exhibitions at the Imperial War Museum, or attend Parklife music festival in summer.

Excellent education and family-friendly environment

Manchester has become synonymous with education. And while it has a strong reputation as a university city, the quality of primary and secondary schools is equally high. The strong OFSTED rankings make Manchester relocations appealing to parents.

Value time outdoors as a family? The city’s parks and green spaces are peaceful places to invest in that all-important bonding time.

Connectivity and transport links

It might be close to major motorways, but don’t be fooled; there’s no need to drive. Manchester’s rail connections to other UK cities are fantastic. Just over two hours from London, the city is an excellent choice for hybrid workers in the capital.

In Greater Manchester itself, residents can catch the tram, bus, or train. Have you heard about the city’s major changes to its public transport infrastructure? In 2022, the council capped adult bus fares at £2, and, as of 2025, it’s launching a low-cost and high-frequency Bee Network.

Affordable living (compared to London)

As with all sought-after cities, property prices in Manchester are rising. However, Manchester still offers relatively affordable living – something buyers should keep in mind. To be exact, it costs 19.2% less to live in Manchester than in London (when excluding rent). That’s a pretty hefty saving.

Manchester is the sort of place where everybody finds a way to thrive. Young professionals or families alike can carve out their own corner in this exciting city. Affordable, well-connected, booming economically, and home to dozens of excellent schools, this cultured city makes for a rewarding relocation.
