Thicker Hair
The quality and appearance of your hair can be a major contributor when it comes to self-esteem. It may not bother some, but I know a lot of people who have been impacted by hair-loss or thinning hair. Naturally, hair will thin as we age. But in some cases, this process can be sudden and disorienting, and maybe not age-related. I wanted to share a few techniques that could help reinvigorate your hair, and get you that thicker hair you might be looking for.
Scalp massage
There is some evidence to suggest that scalp massages can stimulate hair growth in certain people. Especially those suffering from hair-depleting conditions like androgenic alopecia. In some cases, it can even cause lost hair to grow back! You can do it yourself, using your fingertips, or a specialist tool. There are lots of tools on the market now that are really great, and they allow you to add product in there to boost the impact too. You can also visit a professional therapist, who will likely be a specialist in this area and be able to perform the massage for you in a way that will best help the scalp and hair.
Keep your scalp healthy
Given the right conditions, your scalp and hair, can look after itself quite well. But if you disrupt these conditions with the help of hair products like gels, oils, and waxes, the quality of your hair might suffer. Hair follicles can also be blocked by naturally occurring obstacles, like dandruff.
The best recommendation I would suggest is to wash your hair as usual, and then use leave-in treatments to supplement the natural function of your scalp, rather than fighting against it. You can also find products to leave in before washing, or to dispense with the shampoo. I also only wash my hair once a week as washing it too often can really encourage it to become greasy super quickly.
Use a thickening spray
If you can’t stimulate the growth of thicker hair, you can use hair thickener spray to help with conceal thinner areas. The success of these sprays can vary, so it’s worth experimenting with different ones to see what works for you. In some cases, the spray might even help to thicken your hair permanently, over time. I’ve seen these becoming increasingly popular this year, even for those who don’t experience hair loss, but just want to give the appearance of fuller hair.
Diet and supplements
You might also support your hair through the foods you eat. Your diet should include the right amounts of protein, omega-3 acids, and other nutrients like zinc, biotin and selenium. These can be found in organ meat, eggs, nuts and seeds, and a few other source. You can also get them from supplements that are formulated for hair loss if you struggle to incorporate those things into your diet.
Summary
Hopefully some of these tips are helpful if you are looking for thicker hair solutions. Let me know if you try any or have any others to share in the comments!
