Personalising Your Life!
Personalising your life is all about understanding who you are and what you want. That’s a pretty big question to answer, and it might take some time to really become confident about who you are. I have written about this a few times recently. I feel like I’m the most confident I’ve been in my style and it’s such a great feeling, so I’d love to help other people find that too!
As long as you like how you’re living and you’re making changes that mean something to you, you’re being true to yourself and customising your life your way. And if you’re in need of a little inspiration to live a little more like this, I’ve added a mix of easy and favourite ideas in this post.
Decorate with your Personality
Following and keeping up with decor styles can become tiring and unachievable. You might feel pressure to keep up with the latest trends, however I’d recommend you decorate in your own personal way. Don’t decorate like someone else, or how other people are decorating. Pick and choose pieces from styles and trends that you love the most. This way you’re definitely less likely to get bored of it, as you will love your own style for longer than someone else’s!
Also don’y worry about styling different rooms in different ways. Scandinavian living room but a boho chic bedroom? Yes please! Colourful backsplash but otherwise white coated kitchen cabinets? Pair together what you really love about home decor and you’ll soon have a space that speaks to every part of your own personality.
Travel Alone From Time to Time
Travelling alone is great fun! It might take a trip or two for you to feel fully comfortable doing this, but travelling alone allows you to both step outside of your comfort zone AND do things on holiday that you’ve always wanted to do. It takes a bit of confidence to pull off, but even just taking a day trip in another city in your own country counts as solo travel.
Book yourself in for activities you’ve always wanted to do but can’t convince a friend to try, drink at bars that look interesting, and bring home cute little souvenirs that a family member would usually scoff at. This is your trip!
A Number Plate?!
What car do you drive? One much like any other on the road? Not for long! This is more of a fun one, but why not look into number plates for sale to customise your car. This isn’t necessarily a deep one, but starting to think about all the little ways like this, that you can personalise aspects of your life and show off your personality to others, definitely helps! It doesn’t need to mean anything to anyone else, just a little something for you to make you smile when you see it.
You can also customise your car in other ways like bumper stickers, dashboard items, seats and seat belt covers. You can even make your own versions of all of these things, if you find that similar stuff on the market doesn’t feel like you at all. These little things might help you enjoy your journeys that bit more, every time!
Make or Personalise Your Own Clothes
Making your own clothes is a lot easier than you might think. You don’t need to have skills in knitting, crochet, or sewing to manage it – although it might be a fun idea to do a class on sewing certain items of clothes, or starting with the basics like how to hem a pair of jeans.
And if this isn’t for you, you could start with personalising. Try buying a plain t-shirt or basic pair of trousers and then decorate them yourself. Cut them up, add patches, or use fabric paint to create your own designs and pencil on your own slogans! It could be a fun activity to do with friends too. Plus, you can be sure no one will be walking down the street wearing the same thing! Buy some fun basics from somewhere like Pink Boutique and add your own twist to express your style. You can also sign up for Pink Boutique to get news about exclusive offers and the latest products and trends.
Throw in Your Own Spices
When you’re cooking, do you follow the recipe to the letter? If you’re anything like me then definitely not! Loads of us throw in our own ingredients and cut steps out if we can’t be bothered to do them. And that’s actually a good thing! This can lead to discovery of new favourite flavours and preferences, and allows us to make food we actively want to eat, instead of something healthy we just think we should eat.
This is another little fun one, but starting to experiment with smaller things like cooking can really build your confidence. Every little bit of personalising your life counts.
Don’t Let Anyone Tell You How to Live
It’s something we’ve always known, but we can forget it from time to time. You’ve got your own life and it’s up to you to decide what you do with it and how! You decide who you’re going to take advice from, and whether or not that person has any right to speak about your life. A friend, for example, will have good input and deserves to be heard out. A random stranger on the internet certainly does not! It can be hard sometimes, especially in a world of social media. However, if you wouldn’t value someone’s advice, then definitely don’t let that person have any say in anything in your life.
Personalising your life shouldn’t take much effort. All you have to do is think about what you love and invest in those things! So if you want to decorate your house in bright pinks and reds, have heart shaped cushions, and use rose tinted cutlery, go ahead. In contrast, if you love neutrals, then feel free to add this into all aspects of your life. The way you live your life is up to you, and the more we customise the day to day, the more fun the whole thing can be.
